Origin Corporation, formerly known as Fuji Denro Kogyo Co., Ltd., was established in 1938 as a manufacturer of electric furnaces and copper suboxide rectifiers. The company changed its name to "Origin" Electric Co., Ltd. in 1952 and began producing miniature bearings in 1961. Headquartered in Saitama Prefecture, part of the Tokyo metropolitan area in Japan, Origin Corporation is a publicly traded company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Origin Corporation consists of five major business units: Precision Components, Coatings, Power Devices, Metal Joining/Coating/Bonding Equipment, and Semiconductor Devices. According to the fiscal year 2022 financial report, the Coatings business unit accounted for the largest share of total sales at 32.2%, followed by the Precision Components unit at 24.2%. The Precision Components business unit comprises five product lines: one-way clutches, torque limiters, torque hinges, reverse input cutoff clutches, and bearings.
Origin Corporation has pursued a unique internationalization process. Apart from establishing a subsidiary in Torrance, California, in the United States in 2000, all other subsidiaries and production facilities have been invested in Asia, with a primary focus on China. The company has established subsidiaries in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Suzhou. In Shanghai Pudong, it operates two factories - one for precision components and another for coatings. Additionally, Origin Corporation has set up two coating factories in Tianjin and Dongguan.
